Man returns library book 42 years late (4/22/2004)
Former British Royal Air Force serviceman Ernie Roscouet finally returned an overdue book to the Malta public library. Instead of a fine, he was given a cup of tea (according to British news sources like BBC and Ananova) or coffee (according to Yahoo, Reuters, and all other non-British sources).
The American Library Association presented the 2004 James Madison Award to David Sobel, General Counsel for the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC). The award, named for President James Madison, recognizes those who work to keep government agencies accountable to the public. Most recently Sobel exposed the misuse of JetBlue and Northwest air passenger data.
