    Cool Internship for an MLIS Student (3/17/2005)

    JOB DESCRIPTION: The Lucasfilm Research Library is looking for a summer intern.

    Job duties: Catalog video material into an online database and assist researchers in general library duties such as filing, circulation and photocopying.

    Skills: General computer skills, strong attention to detail and good organizational skills, archiving or cataloging classes helpful. (Note: This position may require occasionally lifting heavy boxes.)

    General information: Students work full-time (40 hours per week, 9:00AM-6:00PM, M-F) and receive $10 per hour. Internship period is June-August.

    Gilmore Girls visit Harvard (3/15/2005)

    We headed off across a large green lawn, sipping our coffee and absorbing all the scenery. Coffee plus Harvard. Now it was really perfect.

    Then I saw it. The thing that until now I'd only managed to worship from afar. It was right there, in front of me. I stopped walking and gazed up at its white columns with respect. "Oh my."

    "What's this?" Mom asked.

    "The library!"

    "Oh."

    "The biggest library I've ever seen!" I stared at it, somewhat overwhelmed.

    Mom checked her guidebook for the facts. "Uh oh. Brace yourself."

    "What?" I asked.

    "This is just one of the libraries," she said.

    "One of the libraries?"

    "This building is one component of a thirteen-million-volume collection housed in more than ninety different libraries," she announced. "It's the oldest library in the United States, and the largest academic library in the world."

    I stared at the building. How could one building be so incredible?
